Type I (AS/NZS 3112) is used in Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and the Pacific islands, and – in its own national versions – in China and Argentina. The two flat pins are angled like an upside-down V, with a vertical earth pin below; ungrounded two-pin versions also exist. Since 2005 Australian plugs have insulated pin bases. The Argentine version has live and neutral swapped compared with the Australian one, which does not matter for plugging in but matters for wiring.
What it looks like
Two flat pins 6.5 mm long at an angle of 30° to the vertical, and a vertical earth pin below them.
The drawings are schematic – they show the pin layout, not the exact dimensions of the standard.
