Type J (SEV 1011) is the Swiss standard, also used in Liechtenstein and Rwanda. It looks a little like a Europlug with a third, off-centre earth pin. The recessed hexagonal sockets usually come in groups of three and accept Europlugs, so small devices from most of Europe work. Grounded Schuko and French plugs do not fit, which is the most common surprise for travellers – hotel rooms often have one universal socket, but not always.
What it looks like
Three round pins 4 mm thick: two 19 mm apart and an earth pin 5 mm off the line between them.
The drawings are schematic – they show the pin layout, not the exact dimensions of the standard.
A type J plug also fits
Only sockets of its own type – elsewhere you need an adapter.
