Type L (CEI 23-50) has three pins in a straight line, with the earth in the middle. It comes in two sizes: 10 A with thinner, closer pins and 16 A with thicker pins further apart. Many Italian homes have 'bipasso' sockets that accept both sizes, and 'schuko-bipasso' sockets that also take German plugs. Europlugs fit all of them. Chile uses the same layout.
What it looks like
Three round pins in a line: 4 mm thick and 19 mm across (10 A) or 5 mm thick and 26 mm across (16 A), earth in the centre.
The drawings are schematic – they show the pin layout, not the exact dimensions of the standard.
A type L plug also fits
Only sockets of its own type – elsewhere you need an adapter.
